The Association of British Insurers have recently released figures to suggest that motor insurance fraud is now costing the insurance industry in excess of £500 million each year.
Davies & Gray are able to compile a 'Consistency of Impact Report' for either the defendant or the claimant. This inspection should confirm if any of the following scenarios have occurred.
- Exaggerated Claims
In this instance, the amount of damage to the claimant’s vehicle is made worse to increase the repair costs, car hire charges, and any personal injury claim.
- Staged Accidents
In this instance, vehicles are deliberately crashed into each other in order that an insurance claim can be processed. Quite often an unaware third party is used as part of the claim in what is known as a 'slam-on'. This is where the leading vehicle brakes unexpectedly and without reason, ensuring the following vehicle hits it in the rear.
- Contrived Accidents
Quite often there is no actual incident. The vehicles have been damaged deliberately (or even purchased damaged) and without them even being involved in a RTA. This is so that a claim can be brought against one, or both of the insurers.
Davies & Gray will inspect one or both motor vehicles to ascertain the consistency of impacts. Any exaggerated, contrived or staged accidents are likely to be uncovered on this inspection. The fee for this service includes the physical inspection of both motor vehicles and the completion of a very detailed 'CPR' compliant forensic engineers report. The report will be supported by comprehensive images and can be used by either the 'Defendant' or the 'Claimant'.
